Located in York County, Kennebunk is a town with a history dating back to 1621. Currently, the town is home to more than 11,500 people. Early on, the community became a key trading center for the area. Over time ship building became a main driver of the local economy. Shipping also aided in the growth of the area. 

Originally, Kennebunk was part of the neighboring towns of Wells, and Arundel. That changed in 1820, when it was formally incorporated as a separate town.
